Home Ownership Is In the The Eyes of the Buyer!
The 'Home Ownership versus Renting' Debate

by Miriam G. Aw

Finally there is an article posted about what I've been talking about for several years regarding home ownership, and how the American public was given the "hokey-doke" about achieving the American Dream, which is now an American Nightmare for millions of families living in the U.S.

The idea of owning a home is a satisfying idea, and I do not begrudge anyone for fulfilling their goal of home ownership.  I'm a homeowner myself.  However, what goes into getting, and keeping a home is an entirely different matter that is not often mentioned when the mere thought of home ownership is broached.

By my standpoint, if anyone is interested in purchasing a house for reasons other than looking at square footage involving buying more house than he or she can afford, or wanting to impress relatives and friends, then yes, by all means purchase that house, make it a home, and utilize both the internal and external spaces needed to survive an economy that may ultimately prove worthy of purchase.

Buying a house should be based on several purposes, which are not often associated in myriad of individuals' minds when buying a piece of property.  Too much emphasis is focused on the square footage than the size of the land for planting food, such as fruit trees, vegetables, medicinal herbs, and so forth.  This alone is a travesty because the spew of the American Dream to own a house is never discussed as a tool of 'survival,' but instead, a trophy of 'status.'  And as a result of feeding such negative hype about home ownership, the poor sucker is then brought down to the knees of believing that he, or she, or both have literally "Made It" in a society that has often judged others based on race, culture, class, economic status, and/or religion - all of which have played an integral part in geographic home ownership, and its location.

Whether you agree with this article, or several articles I've written on the subject, or the following related links speaking about the similarities on how we, as American citizens have bought into this brainwashing notion of home ownership, or non=home ownership, depending on which side of the fence you are standing, it would behoove you to evaluate, and independently come to your own conclusion on the matter.

A Bit of FYI To House, or Apartment Renters:

Let us not forget that house rental properties are owned and run by home owners, and unless you are absolutely certain that the rent you are paying every month, faithfully, as a tenant to your landlord, or land lady (home owner) is paying their mortgage, then I strongly suggest that you look into purchasing your own home, and not risk yourself having to look for another place to live in the immediate future!  Just a thought worth mentioning.
